Sessional General Practitioner

Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary

We are looking for Sessional General Practitioners (GPs) to work in our Out of Hours Service .

We have one centre in the West of the Region (Stranraer) and one in the East of the Region (Dumfries) providing a regional service based in Dumfries.

The General Practitioner are the general medical specialist who will oversee a multi-disciplinary team which includes Advanced Practitioners, Healthcare Support Workers, District Nurses and occasionally paramedics and pharmacists. Our Healthcare Support Workers are skilled to support with any home visits and also in the Centre with routine observations as well as ECGs/Bloods.

There will be opportunities for Mentoring of Medical Students as well as Nursing students when on shift. Our main base is within the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The successful applicant should be motivated to provide excellent patient care as well as taking a lead role in the on-going development of clinical services within the service and should be available to work a variety of shifts, flexible and cover last minute call-offs  to cover sickness absence.

It would be desirable if you have experience working in an Out of Hours services but not essential. You should have a facilitative and supportive and flexible style of working. Successful applicants will need to obtain PVG Clearance and be registered with the Scotland Primary Care Performers List.

There will also be an opportunity for you to come to the area prior to interview to provide you with a tour of our new hospital/out of hours area as well as taking the opportunity to show you around Dumfries and Galloway if you are considering relocating.
